So I am wondering, as a world language teacher, if anyone really needs to know a second language. Many times I find myself talking with people who need that second language for work or pleasure. But am I just sensitized to that? I would really like to be able to share some of your experiences with my students and maybe gain a little insight into the perceptions of those outside of the language world? Do you know of anyone who uses a second language in their work? Has it been valuable to them? Have there been disadvantages? I appreciate your input.

Beaucoup fois je trouve me parlant avec les gens qui ont besoin de que la deuxième langue pour le travail ou le plaisir. Mais je cela suis juste sensibilisé ? J'aimerais pouvoir partager vraiment certaines de vos expériences avec mes étudiants et gagne peut-être une petite perspicacité dans les perceptions de ces extérieur du monde de langue ? Savez-vous de quiconque utilise une deuxième langue dans leur travail ? Le cet a été valable à eux ? Il y a eu des désavantages ? J'apprécie vos données !

ReplyDeleteMy friends' family used to own a carpet company and they hired several workers that spoke Spanish. They told me that they wished they learned a second language to make communication easier with their employees. I believe they even bought the Rosetta Stone program to help them learn some Spanish.
ReplyDeleteI think it is absolutely essential for people in todays globalized world to speak at least two languages....I think Americans tend to be arrogant in their opinions on "foreign" languages in the United States, but anyone who has traveled outside of the U.S. knows how important it is!!
