I agree Dr. Williamson, I never had the opportunity to REALLY learn a second language and I regret it. I feel as if we should incorporate other languages early on with the little ones I work with. I only wish I was that fortunate!
Second Languages are really important! I took French in high school for 3 years and went to France with my school, however, I still couldn't fluently speak the language. I would love to see languages start in elementary school!
Learning a second language is not only beneficial for the sake of being able to communicate between cultures, but I feel students who study foreign languages perform better and tend to be more well-rounded.
First - I really like the picture. Neat idea. And yes, we all should know a second language and practice using that second language. Yesterday, I dropped Megan off for a birthday party...I hung around...and popped into a pizza place for lunch. The lady behind the counter was tickled when I answered with Si, versus yes....and it popped out all on it's own...!! She asked if I spoke Italian...I said no, but I know enough to be polite...she really like that!! A very Italian lady...anyway...just speaking a few spanish words or italian....others really appreciated the effort. The lady at the dry cleaner is from Korea...and I try a few words with her..the kids too.
Second, OK...I cannot add an RSS feed to my blog...I am told it is soooooo easy...and the only thing I can think of is I've changed the name of my blog...I see the URL which looks funny...http://dn-virtualcampfire.blogspot.com/...but everytime I go to Layout - Add a Gadget - + Feed - enter my blog URL??....I get some other blog. MY Blog title is Campfire Chat...but that shouldn't matter...
Thanks for your comments! I appreciate them all. I'll let my students know that you have found knowing a language useful! And, a special wow to Diana for knowing Italian and Korean?? How did you come across those?
RSS feed - it's not the name of your blog if I'm correct, but the URL of the RSS feed entered into your blog as a widgit... Does that make siense?
I believe everyone needs to learn a second language. Dr. W
